Resume:

The project aims to counter these restrictions in civic space by challenging the violent means of oppression applied by the government. As such, the purpose of the project is to reclaim civic space by countering the prevalent use of torture and ill-treatment with reference to Ugandan (and international) law. Specifically, this will be done by: 1. Raising public awareness about the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment under Ugandan law, the purpose of documenting human rights violations, and what services are available for victims to seek support; 2. Collecting evidence of torture and ill-treatment as a basis to engage with government authorities. The intervention will be implemented by DIGNITY and its partner African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV). The intervention targets survivors of violence and torture, the general public, community volunteers, journalists and members of the Coalition against Torture, national and local duty-bearers
