Overordnede mål :

The long term objective of the intervention is to create high public awareness and adoption of methodologies that can reduce environmental degradation and promote sustainable livelihood in Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlement and other host communities in North Western Uganda.

Umiddelbare mål :

Short Term Objectives 1. Give the refugees livelihood skills they can use when they in the future are returning to Southern Sudan 2. Reduce the use of firewood by introducing more sustainable energy techniques 3. Promote a tree planting and reforestation process in the settlement 4. Promote an increased food production and local food security. 5. Lobby leaders to promote methodologies that reduce environmental degradation and improve sustainable livelihoods. This project is a pilot project in the 14 villages in Zone 1 in the Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlement. In case of a successful outcome the project will be replicated in other zones of the settlement and new activities will be included as the introduction of solar stoves, biogas, village savings and loans associations, adult education and a local news and information system.

Målgrupper :

The primary target groups are: 1. Refugees from the 14 villages in Zone 1 and farmers living in the community will be invited to participate in the training sessions around Sustainable Energy, Tree Planting and Food Security. 14 mixed groups with 30 participants from the settlement and the surrounding community. 420 individuals in total. The majority will be women and a preference will be given to settlers who haven’t taken advantage of other CSO financed projects The secondary target groups are: 1. All families living in Zone 1 in the refugee settlement. In total 59.000, 54 % female. 2. The families living in the local community surrounding zone 1. 3. Local leaders in the surrounding sub-counties and district 4. Leaders working with refugees in Bidi Bidi and other refugee settlements in Uganda 5. Refugees in the other zones in Bidi Bidi.
