Resume:

According to FAO the worst desert locust outbreak in decades is taking place in Horn of Africa where tens of thousands of hectares of cropland and pasture have been damaged in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. The desert locust plague has caused a devastated effect in Xidhxidh village and many other parts of Sool region in Somaliland. It shattered green vegetation and destroyed large animal grazing area and caused major vegetation and agricultural damages and consequent caused human and animal destitution such as famine and starvation. Xidhxidh village is located 54 km north west of Lasaanod in Sool. And there’s approximately 6000 residents in both rural and urban areas mainly nomadic people. The area is frequent and consecutive affected by drought, and this is also the current crisis situation for locust outbreak that hit food security and livelihood severely and caused malnutrition. It was estimated many thousands are severe food insecure and among them many children, sick and elderly are acutely starved and malnourished in this area of Xidhxidh village. CHURDO and SRNF plan to respond to the current locust outbreak crisis situation in Xidhxidh proposing two months of food distribution to meet the immediate needs and save lives of 310 households in Xidhxidh village.
