An inclusive, participatory and sustainable Local Self Governance approach to Poverty alleviation

Umiddelbare mål :

i. Advocacy: Local Self Government Institutions (LSGIs) have adopted a demonstrated approach of institutions and processes to improve food and livelihood security in their respective areas and block actors influenced ii. Capacity building: Gram Panchayats (GPs) and community level CBOs like Activity groups and Self Help Groups (SHGs) and the Village Councils have the capacity to improve the food and livelihood security of poor families through Decentralized Natural Resource Management (DNRM) in a sustainable manner through institutions and processes of Local Self Governance iii. Strategic deliveries: Poor families have significantly reduced the period of food insecurity through the Local Self Governance approach of DNRM

Målgrupper :

The project addresses a range of target groups. The first and main target groups are the poor families in general, their CBOs and apprentices/paraprofessionals from within the community. The primary target group is 4000+ poor families in 12 GPs of 12 different blocks covering most of the poorer districts of West Bengal. The distribution is about 55-45 gender-wise between women and men, while about 33% are grown ups and 66% children. The target group will consist of different ethnic groups (low caste Dalits and casteless, Muslims and tribal ethnic minorities).

Projektet udgør den 3. fase af 4 af et samarbejde mellem iiINTERest og Ahead Initiatives. Mens der stadig arbejdes på forbedring af fødevaresikkerhed og udbredelse af lokalt forankret demokrati til fordel for de fattigste i Vestbengalen i Indien, flyttes fokus i fase 3 til a) kapacitetsopbygning af CSOer og regeringsorganer (på kommune og amtsniveau), og b) fortalervirksomhed rettet mod regeringsorganer på især amtsniveau, men også regions- og delstatsniveau samt NGO netværk og politiske partier på delstatsniveau. Fase tre har en stigning i antallet af involverede CSOer og projektområder (fra 3 til 12) for at udbrede den model udviklet i de to første faser til forbedring af fødevaresikkerhed og udbredelse af lokalt forankret demokrati til fordel for de fattigste. Der udvælges tre amter for at afprøve en intensiv model her, mens der i de ni øvrige områder vil være et mere ekstensivt fokus på en til to landsbyer per kommune. Den primære målgruppe af fattige familier vil være i alt 4500 familier.
