prevention and protection against child abuse in Ho Chi Minh City This 3 year project will address the issue of prevention and protection against child abuse in its many and various forms.in poor and disadvantaged children in Binh Chanh and district 8 of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. It will do so by increasing Ho Chi Minh City Wellfare Association´s (HCWA)s. capacity to respond and adapt to Vietnams new children law/action plan on protection and prevention oft disadvantaged children . This will include 1) strengthening the recruitment and management of HCWA- volunteers capacity in order to reduce operating costs and dependency on external funding, and 2) strengthening its awsareness creation and advocacy capacity in relation to the new Children’s Law by consolidating an open and regular dialogue between Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the local authorities and other stakeholders (f.x. police and teachers ) on this issue, and by maintaining its authority as an advocate for children’s social issues through a limited strategic social service work for dissadvantaged, vulnerable children. in the project area. . Prevention and protection against sexual abuse, labour abuse, drug abuse, domestic violence and criminal recruitment was rated as most important by disadvantaged children in a survey in the previous project together with acces to schooling and health sevices, and will receive priority. Volunteerism is a relatively new concept in Vietnam and its development will be followed, and successes and challenges registered by the organisation and shared with its Network partners. The projects overall goal is that awareness of the new children’s law by all stakeholders and a comprehensive child protection system in HCMC is created.
